Afternoon Tea
It is said that Afternoon Tea is a perfect example of quintessential Britain. Indeed it was Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford who, upon complaining of hunger pains between meals often received a pot of tea & light snack in her private boudoir during the afternoon.
When she returned to London she invited friends to join her for ‘tea and walking in the fields’. Other social hostesses soon picked up on this and it soon became respectable to take tea and sandwiches in the Drawing Room, a room traditionally used in the 18th century for entertaining guests before dinner.
